• THE EUROPEAN DESALINATION SOCIETY (EDS)  establishes its first award program for outstanding innovation in desalination, named in the honor of Sidney Loeb, who gave birth to reverse osmosis as we know it today. 
• The 2006 Sidney Loeb inaugural award was handed to Leif Hauge in recognition of inventing the pressure exchanger
